A little about me .. my name's Simon and I started Timber & Tannin in mid 2021, but I'm getting ahead of myself ..
 

At first, my woodturning journey began in 2019. I'd had a bee in my bonnet for some time about finding a creative outlet. Over the years I've spent a lot of time involved in more 'handyman' focused projects, home improvements, etc. But there's a big difference between productivity and creativity!
 

After some mental health stumbles, I knew I needed to create, I knew I needed to share, and most importantly I knew it needed to be hands on. And so, in the blink of an eye I went out and purchased my first lathe and associated tools to complement my already sizeable arsenal. From there, it snowballed pretty quickly ..
 

Before I knew it, I had more ideas than I had time to create them, my friends and family were being inundated with test versions as gifts .. and everyone started encouraging me to take it further. From there, I opened an Etsy store which is gathering momentum, and now the focus is on spending more time at my chosen craft .. actually it's fair to say, I feel it chose me!
 

Nowadays, I view this as a hobby first and foremost. You'll find me most days tinkering around in my home workshop in Canberra. Playing with new ideas and designs, filling orders, creating. The music is always on. For me, music and creativity go hand in hand.
 

My personal life? I'm very happily married since 1998 to a magnificent woman who not only keeps me sane but also uses her smarts to help me out with the bits I simply don't have an interest in - web design, etc .. the tech side! Spoiler alert, her handwriting is also lightyears beyond mine so she also writes the gift cards 😅 

All items for sale are designed and created solely by me in my home workshop. I'm not some big company using mass production machinery or cutting corners to save a few cents here and there, I'm just one man who's found a creative outlet that he enjoys and wants to share.
 

I'm also not in it for the money, which is why I can offer these items at such competitive prices. This is a hobby first for me so I don't need to squeeze every last dollar out of my work.
